What is Menopause?
Menopause happens naturally with age, it occurs when women stop menstruating. Menopause marks the permanent end of monthly periods and fertility. Women start experiencing the changes of menopause between the age of 45 to 55 years old, when the Oestrogen and Progesterone levels begin to fall.
The time before menopause when women gradually produce less estrogen is called Perimenopause. Signs and symptoms of Menopause are usually enough to tell most women, that they have started the menopausal transition.
Interventions that decrease the severity and frequency of these menopausal symptoms are likely to improve women’s wellbeing and quality of life.
Different stages of Menopause:
Perimenopause: Your cycles do not stop but they become irregular. Most women hit this stage around age 45.
Menopause: starts when you have your final menstrual period. Hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, and other symptoms are common in this stage.
Postmenopause: This begins when you hit the year mark from your final period. Once that happens, you’ll be referred to as postmenopausal for the rest of your life.
