Symptoms of Menopause
The first sign may be an irregular menstrual cycle. Menopausal symptoms can begin months or even years before your periods stop and last around 4 years after your last period, although some women experience them for much longer.
Hot Flashes
The most common symptom in menopause and perimenopause. A hot flush is a sudden intense feeling of warmth and heat sensation usually felt most intensely over the face, neck and chest.
Hot flushes usually affect women who are approaching the menopause and are thought to be caused by changes in your hormone levels affecting your body’s temperature control.
It can start a few months or years before your periods stop and usually continue for several years after your last period. They can happen without warning throughout the day and night
Night Sweat
Excessive night sweating during the night. Night sweats are when you sweat so much that your night clothes and bedding are soaking wet, even though where you are sleeping is cool.
Like other symptoms of menopause, night sweats can vary from woman to woman. They can last 1 minute or 5 minutes and they can be mild or severe.
Mood Swings
If you have ever felt angry or frustrated within moments of feeling happy or elated, you may have experienced a shift in mood. Changes in hormone that happens around menopause may lead to mood swings. As levels of estrogen fall, many women experience a variety of symptoms that includes mood swings.
